Our Curriculum Vision
Growing in Confidence, Courage and Compassion
At Dodleston C.E. Primary School, our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and rooted in our Christian vision to nurture children who grow in confidence, courage and compassion.
Guided by our core values of Love, Respect, Courage and Wonder, we are committed to developing the whole child — academically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum is designed to:
Provide a broad, balanced and knowledge-rich education that builds secure understanding over time.
Develop confident, resilient learners who are prepared for the next stage of their education.
Enable children to think deeply, ask questions and engage with challenge.
Promote dignity, respect and responsibility within our diverse local and global communities.
Ensure all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged pupils, achieve well.
Rooted in our spiritual foundation:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. (Mark 12:30)
we encourage children to live fully and intentionally in every part of who they are.
Curriculum Design
Our curriculum is coherently planned and sequenced to ensure that knowledge and skills build progressively from the Early Years through to Year 6. Each subject has clearly identified substantive knowledge, disciplinary knowledge and key vocabulary, enabling children to remember more and know more over time.
We begin by helping children develop a secure sense of identity and belonging within our school and village community. From this strong foundation, we broaden horizons through local, national and global learning, ensuring pupils understand their place in the wider world.
High-quality texts, rich discussion, practical experiences and purposeful opportunities for reflection ensure depth of learning. We are passionate about first-hand experiences, including educational visits, visitors, community partnerships, sport and performance, which enhance cultural capital and strengthen long-term memory.
Personal Development
Our curriculum is intentionally designed to develop character alongside academic achievement. Through leadership opportunities, extra-curricular activities and our PSHE curriculum, children learn to:
Grow in Confidence — developing independence, self-belief and aspiration.
Grow in Courage — embracing challenge, persevering and acting with integrity.
Grow in Compassion — demonstrating empathy, respect and active citizenship.
We actively promote equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring every child feels valued and able to flourish.
Curriculum Impact
As a result of our curriculum, pupils leave Dodleston:
With secure knowledge and skills across the curriculum.
Ready for the academic and social demands of secondary education.
As confident, courageous and compassionate individuals who are prepared to make a positive contribution to society.
Our aim is that every child flourishes — living life to the fullest and using their gifts to serve others and care for the world around them.
