PSHE and RHE

Rooted and Reaching

At Dodleston C of E Primary School, our PSHE and RHE curriculum is called Rooted and Reaching.

Rooted in faith, love and community, and reaching out with confidence, courage and compassion, our curriculum reflects our Christian vision to nurture children who live life to the fullest — academically, emotionally, socially and spiritually — with Jesus at the centre of all they do

Through PSHE, we intentionally develop character, resilience, emotional literacy and social responsibility so that every child grows in wisdom, integrity and purpose.

Our Approach

Our curriculum is built around the Kapow Primary PSHE and RSE scheme, enriched through:

·        The No Outsiders inclusive education programme

·        Whole-school themed events (such as Anti-Bullying Week and Safer Internet Day)

·        Zones of Regulation

·        Bikeability

·        Crucial Crew

Learning is structured across five key themes:

·        Families and Relationships

·        Health and Wellbeing

·        Safety and the Changing Body

·        Citizenship

·        Economic Wellbeing

These themes are revisited and developed progressively across the school to ensure pupils build knowledge, confidence and understanding over time. A detailed breakdown of coverage can be found in our long-term plan.

Relationships and Health Education (RHE)

In line with the Department for Education statutory guidance (2019), all pupils receive statutory Relationships Education and Health Education.

This includes learning about:

·        Positive and respectful relationships

·        Mental and physical health

·        Online safety

·        Personal boundaries and consent

·        Puberty and the changing body

·        Keeping safe, including first aid and substance awareness

In Year 6, pupils also receive non statutory sex education in preparation for secondary school. Parents have the right to request withdrawal from the non-statutory elements of sex education, in line with DfE guidance.

To support families, we provide a dedicated RHE Parent and Carer Guidance document, which outlines the curriculum in more detail and clearly identifies which aspects are statutory and which are non-statutory.

Inclusion and British Values

Our curriculum promotes the values of Love, Respect, Courage and Wonder, alongside the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance.

Through No Outsiders and wider PSHE teaching, we actively promote equality, challenge stereotypes and celebrate diversity, ensuring that every child feels valued and included.

Working in Partnership

We believe that personal development works best when school and home work together.

Our long-term overview provides full curriculum detail, and our RHE Parent and Carer Guidance document offers further clarification around statutory content.

If you have any questions about our PSHE or RHE provision, please contact the school office.
